Sugar Shack in Altoona

It's clean, new, and they had huckleberry shakes. The bathroom smelled nice. The food looked good but I only got ice cream. Will go back.

New restaurant is very nice. Food and service has opportunity to improve. Fries were and cheese was cold. Pork chop and ice cream were solid!

My family and I ate here for the first time tonight. 5 stars!! We regret not coming and checking them out sooner!! We had THE BEST food, service was great! Our waitress was a sweet young lady. Very attentive. Owner was very friendly!! He gave us 10% off our meal for it being our first time there. Kids get free icecream after their meals. Loved the atmosphere...We will definitely be back and be sharing our experience with friends snd family! Oh AND! We acually got there just in time before they could turn off their "open" sign ( we didnt realize they were closing) and they welcomed us in, didnt care one bit. (We realized later that they had closed already.) How nice!! Such a nice family owned restaurant! And the owner gave me kids each a quarter for the gum ball machine. 5 stars from us!!

Great food and service. Not to bad prices

Worth a visit. It has the old diner vibe with checkered patterns and colored vinyl booths. Pretty disappointed by the conflicting signs... outside says breakfast ...interior door has a note saying breakfast ends at 11am. I'm a big breakfast fan. But the brunch burger was good and the strawberry shake was the bomb.

I am Gluten free and if is hard to find stuff for me to eat, but I came here and there said " that there have a Gluten free bun." But I dislike those. But I gave it a try, and it was wonderful

First time visitors. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. Atmosphere was fun and play full. Had some sodas and an appetizer. Yes we will come back again.

$30 worth of food! Ordered the burger Medium came as WELL DONE as ever!!! With only one patty!! Menu says 6 motz sticks and only got 5!!! Will NEVER be ordering food from this establishment again!!!!

Mark and his staff are amazing and the food was great. You would be hard pressed to find a more fun and inviting atmosphere.

Delicious food, definitely try the fried cheese sandwich aka Frenchee! I upgraded the side of fries to onion rings, which was a brilliant decision. Chocolate malt was amazing, too!

The hospitality of the owner of the sugar shack is terrible. Using foul language towards employees of business partners in view of customers. Chewing them out over policies and guidelines he has no clue about nor has any business involving his arrogant self in.

First time visiting since they moved to the new place. Like they have school kids serving and giving them a chance for a job. Great food and tons of options!

The staff was friendly, and the food was okay. I found a hair on my plate that was not my own, but it wasn't touching my sandwich. I got the chocoholic ice cream (clever and fun name), but it tasted really fruity. The decor was outstanding and really fun, and the carrots were the best I've eaten.

I got the Sugar Shack combo and highly recommend it! The tenderloin was so huge and with the cheeseburger on top it was my lunch and super! If you like thin homemade onion rings this is the place to go. They are delicious!

The staff was really friendly. We had a party of 6, quick service and the food was delicious. It’s a nice fun hidden gem in Altoona.

Everything I ordered tasted fantastic! The portions were huge! Plus, the service was excellent and the '50s vibe was very cool. Can't wait to go back.

I ordered a tenderloin and french fries off of doordash. The menu on doordash said crinkle cut fries. The fries I got are good but they are not crinkle cut french fries. The tenderloin is overcooked.

I have never been to The Sugar Shack so we thought we would try it tonight. I really wanted to like it but I hate to say it wasn't very good. I had a grinder and my husband had the pot roast. The grinder bun was soggy like it sat in the kitchen for 20 minutes before bringing it out. The fries also seemed like they were old and I got the last bit of the bag. My husband had 1 bite of the pot roast and didn't eat anymore. Nobody asked how anything was or why our food was still there when we asked for the check. I know the waitress saw the food was still there and yet nothing. Very disappointed.

Mark and Kim are wonderful! Food is amazing! The new decor looks fantastic!! Our waitress was friendly, polite and attentive. We will be back!

This place was pretty great! Ordered a Mint chocolate chip shake and a chicken fajita wrap👍 Service was good but the fries had a bit too much salt on them for my liking. Not gonna remove any starts for that because I know lots of people like lots of salt. 5/5, definitely would go here again👍

My first visit today, that was recommended from a friend. The food was Fantastic!! And the service was perfect. I love this Diner!! I will be back often for sure. Friendly owner and staff that makes sure your visit is everything you expected and more.

A friendly staff with quick service. We didnt wait long for our food. Granted it was not very busy. The place had an old fashion feel to it. Classic car memorabilia adorned the walls. Then restrooms had treasures from yester-year. The men's room had old US Navy recruitment pamplets and old albums.

Ordered by phone for curb side pick up and was ready and out to us shortly after arrival and the food was hot and fresh and probably best chicken sandwich I've had in a long time. Way to go Sugar Shack!! Thank you!!

I am currently driving away from Sugar Shack right now and on my way to Culver's because my family and I went to Sugar Shack tonight for dinner. We were seated promptly. However, no one came to our table to serve us. Three other tables were seated after us and all received drinks, malts and already were having their orders taken. My daughter went to the hostess and asked if there was a waitress for our table? The gal said yes she'll be on her way. At least three servers passed our table multiple times. I made eye contact multiple times. But, no service was ever provided. We sat there at least 15 min with no one ever coming to the table to even take a drink order. So, we got up and left. I will never be back.

Just ate here. Locally owned. Pretty tasty food. If you like pickles, try the fried pickles. They're delicious! Our server was great & the staff was very friendly & attentive. If you're around, try this place. Folks, if we dont shop local. These places won't remain open. Go. You won't be disappointed.

First time last night as staying in Altoona for the night. WOW. Huge tenderloin made very well. Chicken fried chicken amazing. Hot fudge malt very good. Great staff. clean and fin theme. Only thing didn't like was a canned vegetable. Otherwise go check it out.

We stopped here as we were waiting for pictures at bass pro. We got some cheese fries and some shakes. Absolutely amazing shakes and the fries were delish. The staff made the place even better with how nice, friendly, and helpful they were. You wont regret visiting here.

5 stars on decoration & cleanliness! Nice young people working, excellent malt. Will return to try food.

What a wonderful time and excellent food served up by the best people!

Always wanted to try sugar shack. Then their old location closed down, then coronavirus happened. But this didn't deter me. I decided to make an order through doordash today. I ordered. Then I waited. I waited. And I waited some more. An hour later my order is cancelled by sugar shack and now they are "closed" on door dash. Hey sugar shack, if you're not gonna take orders through doordash, just don't be on doordash.

The service was great. The tenderloin with Graziano sausage was okay. The Hawaiian chicken was a little disappointing it was pretty bland. The pickle fries the pickles were too thin and by the time they were cool enough to eat they were soggy. But the shakes were delicious well worth the price!!!

Was ok. Burger tasted like a fast food burger but was twice the price. Staff was nice.

Good food. Breakfast came back which is what I wanted most. However I got there at 11 when they “opened” based on their hours but breakfast was no longer served at 11. So you need to update your hours and I’ll be back for breakfast.*Edit* I noticed that your hours on your store front changed when I left but the hours on Google weren't updated. I will definitely be back for breakfast. A staple in the community.

Stopped by for lunch for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at the restaurant. Great atmosphere and a nice selection of food. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. There is plenty of parking available and is easily accessible.

Love this place. Great food and Great Service. Strongly recommend anyone and everyone to go.
